ABOUT US
OUR MISSION
The Edit exists to help people look and feel their best and make choices that are better for the planet. We want to make getting dressed less of a chore. We don’t want our customers to have to compromise on quality or their values. We insist on having our cake and eating it too. (Why even have cake if you don't get to eat it?)
We want to be a company that makes our customers’ lives easier — whether that’s eliminating decision fatigue (e.g., no more standing in front of the closet asking, “What do I have to wear today?”); providing a better, more eco-friendly shopping choice; or simply providing clothing options that make them feel great about themselves, especially when they’re not feeling confident or are too busy helping others to spend their energy on their personal style.
Our mission goes beyond clothing. It’s about doing better.
We’re so glad you’re here.
OUR GOALS AND OUR SYSTEMS
Our goals are both lofty and specific—be of service to our customers and be a force for good in fashion with our words and our actions. We want people to feel good about themselves, to change the way the fashion system works, and give consumers a viable, sustainable alternative to the limited choices in front of them.
We want people to buy fewer and buy better. We want to make fashion that serves the needs of people versus just making clothes and expecting people to appreciate our creative pursuits.
So how do we plan on doing all this?
Here’s how: The vast majority of our clothing is made to order. Plus, our collections will be available season after season. We’re giving people options that suit their comfort level, personal style, and mood.
Collections that are not made to order will be made in small batches, from materials like deadstock, recycled, and organic fabrics. Choices are made carefully and holistically, with our purpose in mind instead of being fueled by a desire for profit.
VALUES
We believe there is a better way—and we are committed to doing the work to make it happen. It isn't going to be easy, but we believe it'll be worth it.
We will always do our best, be transparent, and work hard to help people look good, feel good, and do good.
A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER
I always loved fashion and the effect it has on people.
Clothes—their meaning, their impact, and the messages that they send—serve many purposes. Our fashion choices can comfort us when we want to retreat or make us feel confident when we feel anything but.
We all know the feeling of putting on something that makes us feel good, and that feeling is powerful.
The fashion world is becoming more inclusive, ethical, and sustainable—but it’s still hard to find clothes that are easy to wear and care for, easy to style, in my size (I have been all the sizes), and created in an ethical and sustainable manner. I really feel that the choices out there are ones that check one or two boxes, but never all of them. On the rare occasion that I did find something that checked all the boxes, I would buy as much of it as I could, because there was a very good chance that, at some point, it would disappear.
So, I decided to create the solution I was looking for—a clothing brand that is size-inclusive, reliable, sustainable, and an easy ethical choice. But one that is also fashionable and comfortable.
I called it The Edit because I was always going into stores and seeing things that I loved, but I was always mentally “editing” them—to a color that was more flattering or a length that I liked, or wishing that a brand had kept their styles or colors from previous years.
As the company grows and the collections expand, our customers will have more control over those “editable” details—and we won't switch out things that are customer favorites in lieu of some new trendy style.
The path to get here was a long one, a perfectly imperfect journey, but I am excited about the road that is unfolding in front of me. Perfection is the enemy of the good—this is a hard but important thing to always remember. I want to be perfect right out of the gate and to be all things to all people. This is not realistic or possible.
So, instead, I am going to do my best, and when I can change and do better, I will. This means that I will always try to make choices for our customers that don't sacrifice the planet and its occupants, and vice versa. I will always be transparent, and I will work endlessly to earn your trust.
